Heart Of Rio ridden by Indey McCall
This Means War ridden by Josh Ville
Today’s run should be quick paced, lively and energetic. Both horses who were out today, Rio and Ans, were full of energy and always got giddy when out on the track! Ans, being the older and more confident horse made his way briskly onto the track first, with Rio following keenly behind. Ans had had a good start to the season this year, especially to say how quiet his season was last year. He had started with a bang, placing 3rd in both of his current starts. His jockey had been switched to Josh Ville, the new rider at Oak Hill, though this seemed to be paying off extensively. Rio had only raced once so far this year, Indey was taking it quite slowly showing her into the racing world. In her only start she had achieved a 4th place, which wasn’t too bad, but of course once she was used to the track Indey would be wishing for better. Rio was half sister to Daydream, who was doing rather well for Oak Hill, so there was more than definitely hope for her.
Josh made the first move by pushing his lively stallion forward into a trot. He shot off in a forward going motion, pulling on the bit excitedly. Rio’s ears instantly pricked and she began to fight against Indey; willing to go forward. Indey softened her hands and urged Rio up to a trot. Eagerly she sped off to catch up to Ans. Indey softened the filly onto the bit, as she did so the filly begun to respond to Indey more and worked into a more controlled trot. Ans had settled a length or so in front. Josh and Ans had gotten a good bond and Ans listened to him attentively.
As they passed the two furlong marker in trot Josh shouted back, asking Indey if she was ready for a canter. Indey agreed and as she pushed Rio forward. Rio tossed her head excitedly, jumping forward into a quick canter. As she did so Josh spotted them out of the corner of his eye and quickly prepared Ans for canter. Ans shot forward as he sensed Rio coming up behind him, as he got into his speedy canter Rio grew level with him, showing him a little competition. Ans became competitive and started to pull on his bit once again. Josh knew how to ride him well and in no time at all both Ans and Rio were cantering under control, side by side.
The plan for today was that they would just do a short two furlong run; burning off a bit of excess energy and also bringing out each other’s competitive sides, which would hopefully show in their next races. As they sped around onto the home straight Indey glanced over to Josh, seeing that he was ready. They both nodded at each other, before asking their horses for the gallop. Neither horse had to be asked twice. Rio was new to the racing scene, she was eager to please and just wanted to run. Ans was more ready than ever this year, this really was going to be his year to shine. Josh even had a few trips over to The Wire track planned for him this year, Indey was also thinking the same for Rio.
Both horses ran side by side for a moment, before Ans took the lead and Rio happily settled half a length behind him on the rail. The pace was quick and both horses were looking focused and ready to fight. So far, it looked as though this workout was going to achieve exactly what it was wanted to. Ans sped off initially, pulling away from Rio by about a length and a half. Rio was eager to catch up to him, but Indey held her in position, waiting for the right time. Just over one furlong had passed and Indey begun to shift Rio further up to Ans. Quickly, Rio had gain one length and was hot on Ans’ heels .Indey really got her going and Rio was fighting for the lead. Ans and Josh noticed that the other pair had begun to make their move, so did the same. Ans sped off, trying to pull away from Rio. As a young race horse, Rio did outstanding to keep up with Ans. Ans was a four year old, mature, racehorse. Indey smiled as they flew over the finish line, with Ans only half a length ahead of them.
Josh and Indey were both extremely happy with their horses and knew that they would succeed come race day. Both horses were raring to go and had had a big confidence boost after today as well! Hopefully this would show come race day!
