REVEILLEZ RIDDEN BY MILLIE DAVEYS
[/sub]I pushed the young colt into a walk, we entered the dirt track and he tossed his head excitedly into the air, letting out a faint whinny at the same time. I looked down at the grey, muscular colt as we walked down the inner rail, warming up. His first race of his two year old season was fast approaching and after a decent prospect season I was excited to see the outcome. I urged the colt forward into a quick, energetic trot, rising out of the saddle at every other beat. Revel was full of energy and tossed his head high, also trying to quicken into a canter. Revel was not very strong though, so I easily slowed him into a controlled trot. His black hooves sliced easily through the air and landed softly onto the dry dirt, one after another. We came half way up the straight, I sat for a few beats before squeezing Revel on into a canter. Revel's canter was very nice and looked gorgeous. He behaved very well, I sat deep in the saddle, rocking slightly with the colt's movement. We sped up the remainder of the straight in a forward going canter and then approached the bend. Revel shortened his strides slightly and shot around the turn. We came out of the bend, Revel instinctively lengthened his strides again. I pushed Revel into a quicker canter and then asked him for gallop. Immediately Revel sped down the straight in a brisk gallop. Today I would run Revel gently for five furlongs, just for a bit of exercise. Eagerly, like the sprinter Revel was, he sped along the dirt. Revel had long strides when he was galloping, his feet swept off the floor and carried him quickly, as his hind quarters pushed him along. Revel solidly ran. He sped past the one furlong marker in excellent time for such a young and green horse, he had so much potential. Revel ran continuously, all the way up to the three furlong marker. I quickened his pace, like a bullet Revel shot down the rail at amazing speed. Revel continued accelerating down the track, pushing off his hind quarters and then speeding forward. Revel got even quicker as we passed four furlongs. We shot toward the finish. Eventually passing it strongly and in excellent time. I slowed Revel to a walk and alowed him on a long rein. Well done lad! I walked Revel around the track and then dismounted and led him back to the stables.
