i urged cocio forward onto the track, she eagerly stepped out and her delicate hooves sunk softly into the turf. she nickered quietly as we strolled down the rail, amuzing herself; watching the steam form out of her nostrils. as it was quite chilly out i wanted to get cocio's dainty muscles warmed up quickly. i pushed her forward using my voice, cocio responded immediatly and picked up a nice working trot. i rose low out of the saddle to cocio's rhythmic beats. we came to the two furlong marker in trot, also aproching a short bend. i prepared cocio for canter, pushing her on quicker. when we reached the bend i half halted cocio, sat and pushed her into canter. she propelled off her hind legs into a full pelt canter. her hooves moved swiftly, she lifted them just enough from the ground and she carried me quickly around the bend. straight off the corner we came out onto a small slope. i sat forward out of my saddle, pushing cocio up the hill. she stretched out forward tearing up the slope. we reached the top and i continued to keep cocio in canter. i planned to canter her half of the way down the straightline, then i would get her into a gallop. we came to the five furlong marker now. the canter hadn't been easy but cocio was ready to tackle it. though been out of work, she was eagar and prepared to run. eventually we reached the half way point of the straight. i clucked to cocio then gave her a nuge with my heels. she shot off into a gallop. i held her back. i would run her lightly today, just five furlongs to excericse her. cocio ran calmly down the remainder of the straight. soon we passed one furlong and approched the other bend on the track. this turn slopped as we came up to it and dipped at we came out of it. instead of usually slowing as we came to the bend, i pushed her on. the slope was similar to the one that we had done just a while ago, I supose you could say that the one in canter was a mock and now this was the real thing. once again cocio reach out up the hill. we sped easily up the acending slope. we reached the top and prepared for the decend. i began to lean back ever so slightly and steadied cocio's pace again. we smoothly floated down the slope. good girl. i patted cocio's neck as we came out onto the straight and passed the three furlong marker. still we breezed along at a steady and maintainable speed, we wouldn't go any quicker, today was just some light exercise to keep cocio's fit and healthy condition. i stood in the stirrups rocking with the motion of cocio's beats and strides. her strides were short to average length, though she could throw them out six to the dozen and not get tired. cocio was settled into a good gallop, though not racing speed it was very aceptable for today's workout. we passed the four furlong marker. in an instant i decided to quicken cocio's speed just a little bit into a proper racing gallop. happily cocio shot down the rail. i still stood to her strides, my rocking got quicker as cocio did. finally we reached five furlongs. cocio did not want to stop, but eventually i pulled her up into a canter. i cantered her for a further fifty yards or so, before pulling her back to a trot, then a walk. well done girl. i stroked down cocio's neck whilst i let her make her own way around the track to cool down. we lapped the course and then came to a halt. i sat there for a moment; thinking about what i would do with cocio tommorow. perhaps a hack!? i thought to myself. she's been working especially hard since i got her back and she deserves a rest and treat. it was settled, tommorow we would go on a hack! well girl, let's get off. i dismounted cocio and then led her off the track.
