Hollie Jones & Lady Legend
[/center][/u]I walked down to the far field, a lead rein and headcollar in my hand. I was going to bring Lady in to the stables today. She had been out in the field for a good few weeks now, since nobody was doing anything with her. All of the other horses had already been brought in, so it would be easier to catch Lady. I got to the field gate and climbed over, I paused halfway over the gate and looked for Lady. I saw her, looking rather peaceful, under a tree eating the grass. I jumped down from the gate and headed over in her direction.
I got closer to the mare, and her ears began to twitch. She stopped eating and looked up, directly at me. Lady. C'mon girl! Lady continued to look at me, her ears laid flat against her head. I edged toward her and reached out my hand. Lady spun and ran in the opposite direction, bucking and kicking as she went. I could tell that this was gong to be a long day! I sighed and headed over to Lady. She was galloping in circles, getting faster and faster. I stopped and watched the mare in amazment! She truely was amazing! She came to a sudden halt, paused and then reared up, lashing out with her hooves.
I headed over to Lady once more, as I got close she came back down to the ground. C'mon girl. It's okay, I won't hurt you. I spoke to the mare softly, trying to get her to stay where she was. I looked at her, she was breathing heavily and steam was rising out of her nostrils. I reached out for her, she sniffed my hand. I went to put the headcollar on her. Lady set off like the speed of light again! Oh, Lady. I whispered softly under my breath.
I walked over to the tree where I first saw her, I crouched down, against the tree and watched the mare, facinated with her. I could see her, she would stop every now and then and flash a quick glance in my direction. I must have been sat under that tree for a good 45 minutes, before I slowly slipped into a sleep. When I woke, the sound of pounding hoofbeats could no longer be heard, but the sound of munching and chewing. I woke myself up properly, and to my suprise I saw the bay mare eating the grass only feet away from me. Wow, what happened to you. I whispered quietly. Lady must have heard me whispering, she looked up, and stared at me for a few seconds. I cringed, worrying that she was going to run off again. But she continued to eat. Slowly, I began to get up. I reached out toward the mare and edged closer. I stroked her shoulder and neck. She seemed pretty happy about letting me do this. I lowered the head collar towards Lady's nose and slipped it on, I quickly fastened it up and clipped the lead rein on. I sighed a sigh of relief and kept a tight hold on the lead rein.
I pulled up Lady's head and began to walk her toward the gate. She began to get a bit frisky again. She pranced sidewards toward the gate. We finally reached the gate. Lady snorted and began backing up. C'mon girl don't, Lady reared up and then shot forward. do this. I sighed. I pulled Lady down and quickly opened the gate. Lady began walking down the narrow path at a brisk walk, almost trot. We finally reached the end of the path, which led us out on to the yard. Lady stopped at the top and looked around. She let out a loud whinny, and got several replies back. For a moment the yard was filled with horse's whinnies.
I continued to lead Lady, I led her in to the 'Retiremet Stable Block'. Lady was by no means retired, but I thought since most of the horses were quieter than the rest in this block that Lady might settle down a bit. I led her into an end stable, just next to Millie's horse, Prancing In The Darkness. I thought it was a good idea for her to be next to him, he was like a good influence. I led her in and took off her head collar. She stood silently and the back of the stable. I stroked her and then noticed that she looked abit tense. I stepped back toward the door just in time. Lady tossed her head and performed several mini rears. Whoa, girl it's okay! I stayed with the mare for a while, before leaving her to settle in.I believed Lady could be great, she just needed time and patience! After all, this was only the begining.
