i can SHINE
My Shining Star ridden by Millie Daveys[/center]
The powerful black colt strided out onto the dirt track. The crisp ground crunched underfoot in the cool morning air. The sun had just risen and we were ready to work! We were out early, before the rest of our stables mates in order to get in some well needed practice. Recently I had been rushed off my feet and had neglected the colt's potential abit, so I was now putting in the extra hours in order to make it up to him!
I pushed him on into a brisk, forward walk. Happy to be out, Star jumped into his stride and was eagar for more. We walked for abit, all the time Star pulling at his bit, shaking his head and willing for more. After I knew he was warmed up I pushed him forwards into a trot. He bounced forwards into his pace. The leggy young colt threw his head around. His trot was speedy, like all of his other paces really. We performed a few circles and figures of eight, nicely on each rein. Coming up to the corner I urged him forwards to canter. He lept into his canter, flicking his back end as he always did. He set off speedily and gradually slowed to a nice collected canter. He balanced him self and floated above the crunchy ground.
As we came back onto the straight I gave him is head and with a click of my heels he was off! Star sprung forwards into a nice gallop. His long legs reached out, swallowing up the ground beneath him; as his powerful hind quarters pushed him forwards. His eyes were fixed forwards. He knew what he wanted, he just needed my help to get it and at that moment I felt the guilt that I had been wasting his potential.
