The chestnut filly's coat shone in the sun. Maddie was excited and hyper this morning, hopefully she should have calmed down a bit by now. I pushed her into a nice canter, she was so responsive. We flowed down the straight on the turf track getting read to run 8 furlongs.
I halted her infront of the gates, then pushed her to a walk, she was fine with the gates and walked straight in. I crouched low in my saddle and fixed my eyes infront of us. The buzzer rang and Maddie burst out of the metal gates. She began to thunder down the straight, I smiled as she snorted. She was running great today! The ground was a bit squeltchy, so the mud was splattering up in our faces.
We came to the first of two corners on the track we were running today. Maddie had learnt to stay close to the rail, and how to not drift on the corners. She hugged the rail tighly. She leaned a bit as we ran, me with her.
We came off from the corner, and Maddie increased her speed, now 4 furlongs through the race. Maddie lowered her head and and sped down the back straight, soon we approached the second and last corner of the track. Maddie kept her head low and galloped close to the rail again.
After coming off from the corner Maddie quickened her pace and flowed down the final straight. I crouched low in my saddle and tapped Maddie with my crop. We were speeding towards the finish line, in great time. I tapped her with my crop again. She quickened even more. The finish line was just seconds away... We bounded across the finish line.
I was so pleased with how Maddie had beenimproving lately. I patted her neck and smilled, bringing her steadily down to a walk, then halt. Still smilling I dismounted the tall chestnut filly and lead her off the track.
