Take Flight
Winner of SOPS Best Bred Tournament - Classic Turf Weanlings Y12
THE BASICS[/u]
Registered Name: Take Flight
Register Number: #1326
Barn Name: Fly
Age: Weanling [2012]
Gender: Colt
Height: 16hh
Breed: Thoroughbred
Colour: Bay
Personality: Fly is energetic, flighty and saying he is a handfull would be an understatement. But looking at his pedigree, who would have expected anything less? When he is being handled he is cheeky and nippy. He loves a good play and is always trying to get a reaction off his handlers, whether it be by nipping them as they walk past, nudging them along as he is being led or stealing whatever may be in their hands, or even the hat on their head! Fly is a lovely character and everyone at the farm loves to be around him. He has a certian ora, like he was just born a champion. All of the horses instantly seem to have respect to him, maybe it is because of his loving, yet hardy nature, or perhaps they seem to feel it too! Whatever Fly is doing, he likes to do it at 100mph. He has endless amounts of energy, and when he's not being greedy and munching away on his hay or treats, he is running or bouncing around; whether it be in the stable, field or on the track. Under saddle, Fly doesn't really alter much. He has a deep passion for and desire for running. He is still as hyper and excitable under saddle, which at times, when he gets carried away, can make him a little hard to handle. He is not nasty or purposely naughty, he just doesn't realise how carried away he gets sometimes and how much of a big horse he is! Fly has everything which Oak Hill look for in a racehorse! He has heart, class, quality, talent, pedigree and to top it all off a lovely nature. He runs best with other horses, so most of the time we try to exercise him with at least one other horse. He likes to be mixed in with the horses, right in the middle, concequently, we tend to run him as a mid runner. This seems to suit him perfectly, he is happiest and runs best in this position and hopefully he will pull of some great results from it! For now, Fly is very happy playing around the field and being in training for his future career as a star racer, we're very excited to see what will become of him!

Offspring: None

Stud Book: Closed
Pedigree Comments: Well, what isn't to like about Take Flight's pedigree? With a sire like Merry Bay King, a dam like Flying Loose and Simply A Flyer as a full sibling, all bets are on Fly to make a fine racehorse. Perhaps even the next champion. Merry Bay King was one of Green Horse Field's finest racehorses, and in my own opinion, and many others', to this day he still is one of the best. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame, voted Best Older Horse, Racehorse Of The Year, Co-Sire Of The Year and Sire Of The Year. Not only did King prove himself as a racehorse, he also endlessly proves himself as a sire. Producing such offspring as: Impressario, who reached grade 1, won endless end of year awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame; Once Upon A Dream, who reached grade 1 and is possibly Oak Hill Farm's greatest ever racehorse; Lawliet's Girl who also reached grade one and achieved 3 end of year awards, Bank On Greatness who achieved grade 1 status and also won 3 end of year awards, including Best Older Horse; Euphorion, who is currently still racing, but has already achieved grade two and one end of year award; No Wonder, who only managed to race a little as a mature horse, but managed to gain 80% consitency as a prospect racehorse; A Royal Legacy, who is currently only in his two year old season, but has already managed to grab two third places; and finally but deffinately not least, Simply A Flyer! Simply A Flyer is Fly's closest sibling, being from the same sire and dam. Simply A Flyer achieved grade one as a racehorse and countless end of year awards, before being inducted into the Hall of Fame and producing some magnificent foals herself, such as Passionate Flyer and Natural Flyer. However, we can't forget Flying Loose! She is deffinately another horse who needs no introduction. This mare easily achieved grade one, with notable wins in races such as the Dubai Filly Cup. She was a fierce racer in her time and was never one to take lightly. Lucy also seems to have magnificent skill in producing quality offspring. As mentioned previously, she has foaled Simply A Flyer, who oozes quality herslef. Also, Lucy has foaled Loose Truth. Loose Truth always did great in her racing career, finishing with a record of 19:7:4:2. Although she did not race as much as some racehorses, when she did she produced quality results and great finishes. Well, after looking at Fly's pedigree, it looks as though he has alot to live up to! And hopefully the staff at Oak Hill will be able to team together to produce her into a fine young racehorse!

RACING
Racing Style: Fly likes to leave everyone on the edge of their seats right until the last moments of the race! From the gates he makes a pretty speedy break, he allows the rest of the field to settle into their places before placing himself into the pack. Fly likes to run the majority of the race settled behind the leaders. He is focused and undistracted by the other horses. Fly lays low through most of the race and not much is heard from him as he reserves his energy for a final blast down the closing straight. As the closing straight dawns on the pack, Fly makes his move. He speeds out of the pack and takes a more central postion on the track. On the straight he uses all his reserved speed and energy to speed around the leaders and tries whole heartedly to capture the win.
