Millie Daveys shows Josh Ville around the racing barn.
Millie didn't say anything, she took the lead and walked towards the barn. Josh paused for a second before smiling and quickly catching up with Millie. Millie struggled to pull the barn door open. Seconds later she felt Josh standing over her, he grabbed the door off her and pulled it open. I think it needs a bit of oil. Josh suggested. Millie looked at him for a moment but said nothing. She continued to walk into the barn with Josh and his cheeky smile behind her. This is the barn where all the racers are held. If you want to see the broodmares and studs then feel free to look at them in your own time. Millie continued towards the back of the barn. Strictly A Hero, She said as she moved over to the bay colt. Our rising star at the moment, two wins on the trot and one off grade four. He's entered in the Sweet Embrace Stakes over at the Green Horse Fields track in the last week of June. We have strong hopes that'll be the race he breaks into grade four. Josh moved next to Millie and gave the bay colt a pat.
He moved down to the next stall. Who's this? He reached out to stroke the tall 17.1hh bay colt who stood quietly in the stall. This Means War, we call him Ans. He's going through a rough patch at the moment. I'm not sure what to do with him. Josh kept his focus on the colt, Well I'm sure he could be great with the work. Josh took a real shine to the colt and saw something in him. Millie could see this too, perhaps something good would come out of all of this. You like him, huh? Millie directed her comment towards Josh, he nodded in reply with his attention towards Ans. Millie said nothing, but just thought to her self.
She moved away and walked down to the other end of the barn. Dare To Dream baby, Millie stated and nodded towards the filly. Josh walked towards them both. Hall of Famer as a dam and recognised grade one as a sire, yet we seem to be stuck in third place! Millie loved this filly as it was Dare To Dream's first foal and she still had high hopes for her. She'll get out of it, she's only a youngster still. Give her time to mature. Millie agreed with Josh's words, she knew he was right.
So, can you actually ride then? Millie got straight to the point. It would be a big help if he could, seen as though there were only three of them there at the moment, even if he could just exercise the retired horses. Well, Josh laughed a little nervously. I like to think so, I suppose. Millie turned her head to look at him, And you know how to tack up? Josh nodded and laughed, Of course? Millie walked to the barn door and pointed towards the tack room. That's the tack room, tack Ans up and meet me out on the dirt track in ten. I'm sure you'll find it. Millie made her way down towards the quad. She started it up and drove away. Josh was a little taken a back, he had no idea when the track was and no idea what this horse would actually be like.
He took a deep breath and made his way down to the tack room. There was a lot more tack in there than he could have imagined. Luckily Millie liked the tack room to be in order, so everything was labled. He grabbed Ans' briddle, saddle and boots. On the way back to the barn he nipped to his car to get his hat and boots. When back at the barn he threw the saddle over the door and approached the colt with the briddle. The colt was easy to tack up, just a little figity which was a little annoying. Josh put his hat on and pulled his boots on. He led the tall colt out of the stall and to the exit of the barn where the mounting block was. He put both reins in one hand, his foot in the stirrup and hurled him self aboard. Josh was a little nervous, which wasn't like him. He wanted to impress.
Josh kind of urged Ans on, hoping that he knew his own way and would direct him towards the track, which he seemed to do...
