Personality: If you're looking for a filly who is easy to handle, I suggest that you look elsewhere for Soph certainly doesn't fit into that bracket. She is a stubborn creature, determined to get her own way all of the time, and prepared to put up the mental fight to get it. She is not outwardly violent, but she will occasionally strike out when she gets frustrated.
She can be a very vocal youngster, and is often heard in the yard trying to inform the staff of exactly what it is that she wants, and she gets very stroppy when she does not get her own way. In fact, if her 'needs' and requirements are not met, you can guarantee your not going to get her to do anything you want her to until they have been. Due to the fact that she staff have always pandered to her, she is a bit of a spoiled princess.
She has a sharp mind which is highly attuned to the world around her. She examines everything around her, tries to learn the ins and outs of different things, and tends to learn quickly. She has begun to take a real interest in the observation of other horses, and is as such learning how to react to them in different situations.

Pedigree Comments: Soph has the lines of a potential superstar. Her sire, Cryin Out Loud was an amazing grade one sprinter who was proficient on both surfaces. His achievements include a win in the Youth Challenge, a competitive two year old race. Cryin Out Loud is also the sire of another foal born in the same year, a filly called Flyin Out Loud. Soph's dam was only ever raced nine starts, of which she won three. She is a relatively new brood, with only one prior foal - Lynara's Kingdom, owned by Stride Of Perfection Stables. Lynara's Kingdom is currently a grade five two year old.

RACING
Racing Style: Soph has now gotten over her fear of the gate, following several months of gate training, and will no longer shy away from it. This makes her a little easier to handle at the track, when the presence of other equines can make her a little more difficult to handle. However, she generally has a level head and will not allow herself to be carried away with excitement prior to a race. When the gates open she breaks cleanly and quickly setting a good pace early on and maintaining this throughout the race. However, she does not allow preceders to pressure her to run too quickly and will now often listen to her jockey when asked to slow down - something which has been achieved during a period of training. Due to this, it is now possible to run Soph as a stalker in races with a lot of front runners although she will not drop back further than that. As a front runner, Soph tends to build a strong lead during the race and will rely on this in the stretch, although she is easily able to maintain her speed because of the stamina which she inherited from her parents. As a stalker she will make her move around half-way through the race having pressured the front runners throughout the race and will have a little extra speed in reserve for the final stretch. When challenged, this filly is highly competitive and will fight hard to keep first place, refusing to give an inch. This means that even if she does start to tire she will not allow herself to slip back and will give her all.
