DARE TO IMPRESS RIDDEN BY MILLIE DAVEYS
The black filly had really grown into her self these last few months. As she stepped out onto the turf track, the sun shone down on her black coat, is glistened in the lights, her muscles showed through, deffined and prominent. Millie sat on top of the filly proudly. Areto was already a star in the making; as runner up in the Breeder's Cup Yearling Show. Her efforts actually made her Oak Hill Farm's most successful horse in the year 12 Breeder's Cup series. The fresh two year old tossed her head wildly as she made her way to the center of the track. Millie liked this filly, a lot. And she was actually probably Oak Hill's biggest hope for a Turf Tripple Crown.
Millie urged the filly forward into a quick walk down the rail. Areto's head bobbed as she stepped quickly. She held a nice shape and looked stunning. She had matured beautifully into a fine young racehorse. Her first race was quickly approaching, it was planed for her to run in one of the Legacy Series races; a set of races who were for HoF offspring only and seen as though Areto's dam was Dare To Dream, she should qualify.
Areto briskly made her way down the track, she whinnyed eagarly and began to stomp her feet. Easy girl. Millie cooed to the filly and calmed her a little. She was anxious to get going and didn't want to wait any longer. As soon as Areto was calm and obedient again Millie allowed her to proceed into a trot. Her trot was forward going and fluent. It was lovely to ride to and Millie posted to each step. Areto's strides were long, yet quick. She wanted to go everywhere at a quick pace; she was young and energetic. Millie held her back in her hands; keeping her to a nice rhythm. After fighting with Millie for a moment, Areto quickly settled down and quietend into a calm trot.
Millie's plan for today was for Areto to just have a blow out run, two furlongs, all out. Millie could feel Areto raring to go in her hands, a blow out was all she needed today. Millie had been doing some race practice with her lately. She was ready to run her first race, she just needed to blow some energy so she wasn't too excited for her race. Areto was Millie's most promising two year old, already achieving a great Breeder's Cup run, she would be running her first race in a major race. And if all goes well, she may even go to the Unicorn Horn, though the race in which she would run in is yet to be decided.
As the pair sped out on the the long straight Millie asked for the canter. Areto lowered her head and excitedly and gave a swift cow kick out to the side. Millie pulled the energetic filly's head back up and pushed her forward. Areto shot forward, Millie held her back in her hands until she came to a nice controlled canter. Areto's canter was floaty and quick. She sped confidently alond the mud splattered rail. She was very focused once she got going, she knew what she wanted and she knew how to get it. Areto made her way along one furlong in the canter.
Millie felt that she was ready for a good two furlong gallop, to get a little energy out. Cmon girl! Millie urged the filly quickly forward. Areto shot off like a bullet. She was fiesty and strong, willing to go faster and faster. She chomped at the bit and pulled forward. Millie held her back until she quietened and was obediently listening to her comands. When she did so Millie allowed her to quicken. Millie allowed Areto to determin her own speed. She did quicken, but not sillyly. The wind whiped through Areto's slick black mane and lashed at Millie's hands. The filly was gaining speed as one furlong passed by.
Millie looked at her watch timing the final furlong, just to see how fast the filly could go at a leisurly gallop. So far, every thing this filly had done had come nothing short of impressive for Millie. As the daughter of Dare To Dream, Millie had always hoped for special things from Areto, and she knew that they would definately be coming their way soon, all they needed was a little hard work. Areto was focused and ran in a solid rhythm. The thudding of her hooves could be heard echoing around the track. As they flew past the track enterance Millie caught a glimpse of Jaymee-Leigh, one of the other jockeys, watching them train. Jaymee held her hand up in a thumbs up gesture. Millie smiled to herself as she knew others were impressed with her filly. She couln't wait to get her out on the race track next week to show her off to everyone! Areto thundered down the track, steaming past the marker which marked two furlongs for them!
Millie slowly pulled her back, gradually coming to a walk. She cooled her off with a huge smile spreading ear to ear. She was so proud of her filly, now all that stood in between them and victory was a tough Hall of Fame field in their upcoming race!
